The GIS Technician position is a newly created position at In Situ. This is a technical role responsible for providing support to In Situ’s team of Project Managers, Archaeologists and Field Technicians.

In this role you would be expected to become knowledgeable about all aspects of British Columbia Archaeology Branch mapping standards, facilitate mapping from data collected in the field, organize and maintain internal spatial information in ways that add value to our projects, be innovate in your approach to training and communicating mapping related needs to the broader team. This position requires the handling of sensitive information, and requires exercising initiative and judgment to execute projects and respond to challenges on behalf of our clients and partners.

The GIS Technician reports to, and takes day-to-day direction from In Situ’s Project Managers, Project coordinators, and while working closely with Archaeologists.

This role requires that the GIS Technician:

- Provides complex mapping support to In Situ staff, working closely with project management and archaeologists.
- Assists in the creation and implementation of new processes through the introduction of technology to support our goals.
- Prepares educational maps to heighten awareness and present spatial data in ways that offer additional knowledge about our work.
- Maintains internal spatial information in a systematic and organized way.
- Produce and deliver accurate and professional deliverables with particular attention on quality, time and cost parameters, both independently and in a team environment.
- Has the ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing deadlines.
- Works with the team to resolve problems and escalates issues appropriately.
- Updates stakeholder tracker and other related databases as required.

**Qualifications**:

- An Advanced Diploma in GIS, or formalized training in one or more applicable areas of Geographic Information Systems is required.

The successful applicant will have the following: - Working knowledge of natural resource‐based mapping - Advanced knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS 9.x/10 - Experience with the LRDW and common BC Gov’t datasets (TRIM, VRI, DRA, etc...) - Strong data management and troubleshooting skills - Strong customer service / client relationship skills

The following skills would be considered an asset:

- Experience with VNS (Visual Nature Studio), Experience with LiDAR Systems and Processing, Experience with SDE and SQL Server/Express, Experience with FME, XML, and BC Government Electronic Submission Framework (ESF) framework, Experience with Adobe Suite products incl. Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Working knowledge of British Columbia’s mapping standards related to Archaeology, Cultural Resource Management is an asset.
- Experience collaborating with First Nation Governments is an asset.
- Ability to exercise a high level of tact, diplomacy and discretion in developing and maintaining collaborations with team members, clients, industry and community leaders.

**Salary**: From $50,000.00 per year
