Brownstone Insurance Managers Inc. is seeking a highly motivated **Commercial Underwriter** based in Ontario, ideally near Ancaster with a flexible working arrangement that can be accommodated at our head office, remotely, or a combination hybrid agreement.

BIM is a managing general agent that specializes in providing market access to licensed insurance brokers for both Canadian-based insurers as well as solutions in the open market with consistent growth fueled by a dedicated team of experienced professionals supported by solid partnerships with top insurance carriers in Canada.

**The Opportunity**:
We are currently seeking a commercial insurance specialist with a positive attitude and strong focus on customer service to round out our Commercial Underwriting team. Insurance Industry experience is critical for day-to-day activities and knowledge of Broker Management Systems and Microsoft Excel will only make the transition to BIM that much smoother. We are seeking applicants who are self-starters, highly motivated, and willing to learn and grow within our organization.

**Position Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Underwrite, rate, and issue small to medium commercial renewals, endorsements, and new business within assigned underwriting authority and in accordance with corporate guidelines.
- Contribute to corporate profit and growth as part of an experienced and dedicated team.
- Provide prompt and courteous service to all business partners.
- Participate in presentations and coverage launches to business partners.
- Communicate decisions and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner.
- Learn to understand rating procedures, wordings, underwriting policies and regulations.
- Perform risk analysis using technology as well as external data sources for the purposes of quoting, negotiating and authorizing the acceptance of risk.
- Maintain accurate records of decisions made and maintain completeness of policy data.

**What you Bring to BIM**:

- A knack for working with people and numbers.
- A solid understanding of the Canadian commercial insurance industry.
- Enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and be successful as part of a team.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent working knowledge of broker management systems.
- Strong sense of personal ethics and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.
- Exceptional time management and multi-tasking abilities that allow you to meet tight deadlines.

**Education and Experience**:

- Minimum three years’ commercial experience is preferred.
- CIP designation or working toward.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Financial acumen, including the ability to understand financial statements and client's loss history preferred.
- Relevant experience interacting with brokers preferred.
