As an Auto Underwriter, you will be accountable for high quality underwriting of personal automobile insurance policies primarily focusing on issuing new business, policy changes and/or renewals in compliance with underwriting guidelines and within your assigned level of underwriting authority.

**Responsibilities**
- Assessing, accepting, and declining submissions, within assigned underwriting authority.
- Negotiating mutually acceptable terms and conditions of risk acceptance with brokers while developing and maintaining positive broker relations.
- Review underwriting requests, providing support to brokers confirming the correct rate and clarifying or explaining underwriting rules to ensure they are applied accurately.
- Understanding of and ability to read/interpret auto policy wordings.
- Providing technical support to brokers as needed.
- Participate in insurance industry functions and events in support of building broker relations and continually developing your skills.

**What You Bring to This Role**
- Minimum of 3-5 years of direct personal lines automobile underwriting experience or direct insurance experience.
- Strong knowledge of private passenger classes and all miscellaneous vehicle types.
- Commercial auto knowledge or experience would be considered an asset but is not required.
- Proven decision-making and analytical skills.
- Exceptional customer service and negotiation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Tech savvy with ability to use MS Office programs and to learn new software with ease.
- Experience with Guidewire would be an asset.
- You are professional and courteous in all interactions, whether with policyholders, brokers, or co-workers.
- You perform well in a busy operation, remain calm under pressure and are able to prioritize appropriately.
- You are a team player who makes work fun for those working around you.
