Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Municipal Prosecutor will be responsible for providing prosecution services on behalf of the City in the Ontario Court of Justice for offences under Part I, Part II and Part III of the Provincial Offences Act, selected federal statutes, and municipal by-laws.

This position requires the ability to act with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

**The Municipal Prosecutor will**:

- Prepare for prosecution cases including but not limited to the coordination of documentary evidence, property ownership records, corporate searches and conviction records
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies, officials of other Ministries, the Crown Attorney's Office, the Judiciary and expert witnesses to prepare for Court appearances
- Research and analyze case law, interpretation of statutes and regulations, and other information available to determine appropriate course of action, evaluate sufficiency of evidence at trial, and make recommendations to City
- Attend resolution meetings with defendants, agents and counsel as required.
- Examine and cross-examine witnesses, present oral and written arguments, summarize evidence and make submissions regarding recommendations for judgment and sentencing
- Conduct mediations, where appropriate.
- Conduct screenings of violations either in-person, by phone or administrative review; provide written notice of decision to defendant.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Must be licensed or be willing to obtain license with the Law Society of Ontario and must maintain license in good standing.
- Degree or Post-Secondary education in a Legal Program, Paralegal Studies or related discipline.
- Minimum three (3) years prosecutorial and courtroom experience, with knowledge of court procedures, understanding of the Justice System, and Law Enforcement.
- Must possess valid ‘G’ class driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- Thorough knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act, Highway Traffic Act, Contraventions Act, Rules of Evidence, Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and other applicable statutes and regulations.
- Computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office, Integrated Court Offences Network (ICON), Court Administration Management System (CAMS), SharePoint as well as other legal and courtroom programs.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders including judiciary, legal profession, enforcement agencies, and the general public.
- Well-developed organizational and time management skills with an ability to complete a high volume of work with accuracy and within prescribed deadlines in a fast pace environment with flexibility to changing priorities
