**The opportunity**:
The Department of Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases is recruiting for a research assistant that will be working out of the Health Sciences Centre. The goal of this 6-month position is to conduct infection surveillance for the Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program (CNISP), which has fallen behind in response to deadlines due to the pandemic and other COVID related activities. The key responsibilities are to review charts pertaining to COVID-19 and antibiotic resistant organisms, requiring a review of patient information such as antibiotic usage, symptoms, immunizations, outcomes after 30 days. There will also be some data entry responsibilities to input information into an electronic database for the CNISP.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:

- High school completion with job-related options is required.
- Two years of directly-related experience in a healthcare-related discipline is required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to review patient charts and navigate lab information systems to collect relative data (e.g.'s immunization status, symptoms, demographic information, antibiotic use) is required.
- The ability to review patient charts in a timely and accurate manner is required.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology is required.
- Ability to type and enter information into a database is required.
- Attention to detail is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
