**Job Summary**
- The Faculty of Dentistry operates state-of-the-art general and specialty clinics to support our educational programs. Reporting to the Director, Oral & Maxillofacial Sciences, the Histotechnologist will support the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology to meet oral pathology needs.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Accession received tissue specimens and complete gross dissection for tissue processing.
- Produce routine slides including Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) stained slides as well as PAS stained cytology smears, with no supervision.
- Supervise laboratory assistant and complete/interpret gram stains.
- Data entry and processing of credit card payments.
- Maintain lab supplies and equipment. Ensure equipment is clean and in usable equipment. Order and stock supplies. Prepare biopsy kits and reagents. Label and shelve solutions, wash and sterilize glassware, label and dispose of hazardous waste.
- Provide faculty research support as required.

**Note**-This position requires the incumbent to handle volatile, flammable and potentially infectious hazardous material.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

**Required Qualifications**
- Medical Laboratory Technologist diploma plus a minimum of five years relevant experience.
- Training and/or experience in immunohistochemistry.
- Training and/or experience as a Pathologist’s Assistant in gross examination, and the preparation and sampling of tissue specimens.
- Certification through the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science and the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists, as well as current WHMIS and First Aid certification.
- Proven ability to work independently.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) skills.
