Operations Supervisor

**JOB SUMMARY**:
Reporting to the Quarry Superintendent, this position will manage and coordinate all stripping and quarry related activities.
**MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive)**:
**Principal Activities**:
- Ensure all safety rules and procedures are followed and all work is done in a safe manner. Know, understand, and ensure appropriate OSHA regulations and environmental regulations per the operating permit and consistently followed.
- Supervises quarry drill, blast, load, haul and crush operations in a safe and efficient manner that is consistent with company policies and procedures.
- Supervise quarry stripping operations in a safe and efficient manner that is consistent with company policies and procedures.
- Supervise train loading operations in a safe and efficient manner that is consistent with company policies and procedures.
- Ensure all mine plans are implemented and followed.
- Responsible for personnel, arranging shifts and allocating work duties according to the union contract, while maintaining proper labour relations. Ensure that this work is carried out in and efficient manner fully utilizing all personnel.
- Ensure agreed upon performance standards are maintained.
- Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills to motivate employees and maintain an open and positive workplace environment. Effectively promote good morale.
- Responsible for maintaining proper reporting procedures, production reports and oversee the preparation of standard operating procedures.
- Maintain housekeeping in compliance with operating standards.
- Complete duties as directed by Quarry Superintendent.
**Problem solving**:
- Ensure company STP’s and JSA’s and rules are supported externally and enforced consistently. Employees who choose not to follow company rules must be treated fairly and held accountable through the discipline process.
- Ensure a safe working environment through effective housekeeping, enforcement of company safety policy, and implementation of safety programs.
- Maintaining quality of the rock to the crushing plant in terms of purity, chlorides, and moisture content.
- Manage personnel and equipment for continuous improvement on productivity goals.
- Promote the development of employee’s job and communication skills. Maintain records to provide employees structured feedback through hourly performance appraisals.
- Demonstrating leadership and maintaining an open and positive work environment in a busy schedule requires the constant use of people skills.
- Conduct root cause analysis evaluations to assess downtime, accidents or near-misses, quality or process problems, housekeeping, and inventory control.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Demonstrated a successful supervisory skill set.
- Five years of practical experience and demonstrated people and leadership skills.
- Industrial or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of safety programs and Nova Scotia Regulations
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop people.
- Ability to maintain good employee relations.
- Knowledge of operating standards and cost control techniques relative to major cost areas
- Ability to work extended hours on short notice.
Pay: $1.00 per year
