Powerline Technician

Grid Link, located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, has a full-time vacancy for a Powerline Technician. The work will be done in the Thunder Bay/Northwestern Ontario region. Duties Include:
**Duties**
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems including overhead and underground power lines and cables, insulators, conductors, lightning arrestors, switches, transformers and other associated equipment.
- Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires.
- Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks using splicing tools, related electrical equipment and tools.
- Inspect and test overhead and underground power lines and cables and auxiliary equipment using electrical test equipment.
- Climb wood poles and towers, or operate hydraulic buckets when working aloft, or work in confined spaces such as trenches, tunnels and vaults to install power lines and cables and associated equipment.
- Install and maintain street lighting systems.
- Communicate with other workers to co-ordinate the preparation and completion of work assignments.

**Qualification /Education**
- Journeyman Powerline Technician certificate recognized in Ontario.
- AZ commercial driver’s license preferred, DZ is acceptable.

**Experience/Attributes**
- Experience in working with overhead distribution and transmission powerlines.
- Must have experience working underground high voltage cables.
- Strength, agility and stamina.
- Coordination and manual dexterity.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Comfortable with working at heights.
- The ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent people skills.
- Adaptability to changing tasks and locations.
- Rubber glove experience.
- Willingness to work away from home.
- Work at night and in extreme weather conditions.
- Excellent reading and writing skills.

**Salary**: $50.00-$53.00 per hour
