Health & Safety Coordinator

Ruth and Naomi’s Mission is a Christian faith-based organization with a vision and commitment to see the lives of people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and struggling with addiction transformed by the love of God. We operate a low-barrier shelter with a Overdose Prevention Site (OPS), a supportive housing program, and addiction recovery services. In seeking to maintain and improve appropriate safety measures, we are seeking a Health & Safety Officer.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Organize and chair the Health & Safety Committee: recruiting employee representatives, preparing the agenda, and ensuring regular workplace inspections are conducted
- Effectively communicate Health & Safety rules and procedures, and ensure enforcement, with support of the Director of Operations
- Develop and facilitate employee reporting processes, ensuring all forms are accessible and available to all employees
- Ensure adequate training and development is provided to all staff
- Proactively respond to Health & Safety concerns, solicitating feedback and implementing processes and procedures
- Conduct risk assessments as required and updating and improving the Health & Safety manual as required with support from the Human Resources Manager
- Identify health & safety tasks and responsibilities held by Program Managers, coordinating with the Director of Operations for rolling out communications
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely records and reports
- Other tasks as assigned.
Assets & Experience
- Experience and working knowledge of WorkSafe procedures, policies, and expectations preferred
- Experience in developing and implementing workplace policies and procedures an asset
- Attention to detail and strong critical thinking abilities required
- Previous experience in health & safety enforcement or policy development an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Project management experience an asset
