**The Company**

**The Position**

Reporting to the VP of Research and Development, the Biopolymer R&D scientist is responsible for the ideation, design, execution, and implementation of product development projects focused in the area of bio

**Key Responsibilities**
- Support the translation of customer needs into product development projects and research projects
- Plan and execute research projects at the laboratory and pilot plant scale
- Work at the lab bench level to design and execute experiments
- Direct the activities of associated technicians engaged in development projects
- Develop and implement new characterization methods and new analytical quality control routines for the manufacture and characterization of bio-based polymers
- Support the technology transfer from laboratory and pilot plant to commercial scale
- Compile results through progress reports and present results during team meeting or project reviews
- Keep abreast of pertinent new developments and patents and provide executive summaries and comments regarding impact on strategic direction
- Present original research data at industry meetings, and write scientific papers for publication in technical journals

**Position Requirements**
- MSc or Ph.D. in Polysaccharide Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Organic

Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry or related
- Experience in an industrial research environment with minimum 5 years’ experience
- Experience with carbohydrates or other bio-based polymers would be highly desirable
- Demonstrated track record of success executing fundamental chemistry research from high level concept and idea generation to detailed practical validation and commercialization
- Proven ability to execute projects through both hands-on testing and experimentation as well as project management skills and team leadership
- Strong practical experience combined with a deep fundamental understanding of a broad range of biobased polymer chemistries such as carbohydrates and other functional biopolymers
- Experience with reactive extrusion processes would be beneficial
