**Job Title**: Outside Patrol Worker

**Schedule**: 12-hour shifts, three on three off

Days: 7 am to 7 pm

Overnights: 7 pm to 7 am ($2/hr. shift premium for hours worked between 11 pm to 7 am)

**Pay Grid**: S1 $44,742 per year ($21.30/hr.)

**Benefits**: Paid meal breaks, full benefits, paid vacation and sick leave

At Alpha House, the Outside Patrol Worker, works within our protocols and procedures as well as applicable legislation such as the Canadian Charter or Rights and Freedoms, and the Protection of Persons in Care Act, to ensure clients, staff and the general public feel safe and secure in the vicinity of the Shelter

**Responsibilities**
- Maintaining a highly visible and reassuring presence while promoting appropriate behaviour and protecting the welfare of clients, staff, volunteers and members of the public at or in the vicinity of the Shelter
- Enforce rules and regulations in and around the premises with a communication style of respect and dignity
- Conduct regular patrols of the area to deter criminal and undesired activity, loitering, identify safety hazards, and respond to security incidents
- Monitor and control access to the shelter including greeting and providing courteous service to our partners and the public and assisting them through a warm hand off to the appropriate staff or program
- When necessary, escort unruly individuals out of the area, or detain them for Police or emergency services
- Foster and maintain excellent relationships with community partners by checking in with each business, actively build community connections, assessing and responding to concerns and issues in a timely manner
- Perform all duties in accordance with the highest professional standards at all times, and project a professional image of self, the security department, and the agency;
- Respond to emergency situations such as fire alarms, medical emergencies, and other security-related incidents and provide appropriate assistance as needed
- Maintain accurate logs and records of all incidents, accidents, and other activities, write and submit incident reports as required.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (MSDS, OH&S, WHMIS etc.), which includes assisting in maintaining the cleanliness of the outside of the building
- Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing other related responsibility as needed.

**Qualifications**
- Alberta basic security training certificate and licensed through Alberta Justice
- Minimum 2 years of experience in security or related position
- Standard First Aid, Level C CPR, and AED certificate
- Preference will be given to those with experience and knowledge of addictions, mental health and the unhoused
- A high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence and passionate about public service and community safety
- Proven ability to remain calm under pressure, experienced in crisis management, problem solving skills and rapport-building skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate showing respect and dignity as well as with discretion and maintain confidentiality of individuals
- A well-developed sense of diplomacy, including conflict resolution, de-escalation and people management skills
- Must be tolerant, non-judgmental with a high degree of compassion and empathy towards the homeless and those struggling with addictions and or mental health
- Team player with strong oral and written English communication skills
- A thorough understanding and appreciation of the Protection of Persons in Care Act

**Position Requirements**:

- Alberta Security License
- Proof of COVID vaccination
- Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Search, valid within the last six months, that does not contain any results material to the position
- FOIP Certification
- Be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, standing and walking for large portions of the shift as well as hiking through rough terrain
- Steel-toed foot wear
- “It’s your Move” training, or equivalent Patient Lift training
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
