Blue Heron is seeking an **Intermediate Biologist **to lead and carry out aquatic and terrestrial field studies and complete the associated reporting, primarily for mining and site development projects and operations across Ontario. Duties will include field investigations and inventories, impact assessments, best management plans and mitigation plans, technical reports and memos. Field programs may include (but are not limited to):

- Ecosite Classification;
- Vegetation inventories;
- Revegetation Monitoring;
- Targeted Species at Risk Surveys and Natural Heritage Studies;
- Bird Surveys;
- Mammal Surveys; Amphibian Surveys;
- Reptile Surveys;
- Aquatic Habitat Characterization;
- Fish Community Surveys; and
- Benthic Community Surveys.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Preparing for and completing field surveys under the direction of senior staff;
- Complying with Blue Heron’s Health and Safety Program;
- Managing and analyzing data, writing project reports;
- Adhering to task budgets and schedules;
- Assisting with proposal preparation, and
- Other duties, as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or college diploma in biology, ecology, or a related field;
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience conducting taxa specific surveys;
- Minimum 2 years Environmental consulting experience;;
- Thorough knowledge of northern Ontario flora, fauna, and fish species;
- Knowledge of environmental inventory and monitoring data collection protocols;
- Experience using various monitoring equipment, including camera traps and GPS units;
- Excellent navigational field skills;
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental legislation and policies, such as:

- _Fisheries Act_;
- _Species at Risk Act_;
- _Endangered Species Act_;
- _Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act_;
- _Provincial Policy Statement_;
- _Mining Act_; and
- _Migratory Birds Convention Act._
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including field work under a variety of conditions (e.g., inclement weather, early morning, late nights, working on holidays);
- Willingness to travel and work outdoors in remote locations
- Self-motivated and dependable, with a strong work ethic, a strong interest in fieldwork, and a sense of personal responsibility;
- Able to work independently and in a team environment, as well as flexibility to adapt to a changing work schedule and tight deadlines;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent organization, prioritization, and time management skills;
- Demonstrated technical writing and data analysis skills;
- Possession of a current and valid Driver’s License; and
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, Backpack Electrofishing Certification and Pleasure Craft Operators Card.

**Salary**: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
