Communications Specialist

**Job Profile**:
The successful applicant will have excellent sales and marketing communications skills with an ability to generate positive recognition and growth across the IUOE Local 793, OETIO, OEBAC and OE Banquet Hall brands. The Communications Specialist (Marketing & Events) will focus on market research and analysis, developing innovative marketing campaigns and collateral, and facilitating event sales and growth, all with an overarching goal of delivering unforgettable experiences for all members and clients across our entities’ brands, thereby fostering positive community relations.
**Job Duties / Responsibilities**:
1. To execute innovative sales and marketing campaigns and initiatives for the OE Banquet Hall in order to continuously grow sales and client bookings by:
- Performing regular SWOT analysis and developing a marketing strategy plan aligned with organizational goals and growth;
- Coordinating the production of marketing collateral and other event-related materials for OE Banquet Hall in collaboration with the communications department team;
- Conducting market research to identify companies and individuals that would be interested in renting the event space at OE Banquet Hall and tailoring marketing initiative to them where needed;
- Reaching out to identified leads and creating a positive dialogue with prospective clients, delivering sales and marketing presentations, and selling OE Banquet Hall services;
- Establishing overarching brand awareness in the community area where we operate to generate referrals;
- Conducting post-event follow up with clients including generating and reviewing satisfaction surveys and proactively using the information collected to recommend ideas and improvements that will increase future growth opportunities;
- Producing monthly reports on banquet hall space utilization versus marketing efforts;
- Acting as backup to oversee day-of event execution where needed, as instructed by the Communications Manager and/or Human Resources department.
2. To coordinate marketing collateral for any tradeshows or events in which IUOE Local 793, OETIO or OEBAC are participating, including:
- Researching and compiling industry-related event participation and sponsorship opportunity recommendations and generating related marketing proposals for leadership review;
- Assisting with organizing brand marketing requirements for event participation and tracking event participation dates across the organizations;
- Working with the Communications Manager and organization leadership for each entity to select appropriate branded booth supplies and obtain pricing from vendors for leadership approval accordingly;
- Tracking all communications department tradeshow and event assets and their storage locations for recurring use as needed;
- Coordinating the printing of all branded marketing collateral including tradeshow banners, golf signs, etc. as needed and within budget;
- Facilitating any other marketing and event related tasks as needed across IUOE Local 793, OETIO or OEBAC.
3. Helping to assess and establish processes to enhance the delivery of communications across the organization, membership, and other stakeholders, including:
- Staying up to date on industry trends and best practices as content continues to evolve across various technologies and platforms;
- Participating in brainstorming with the communications department team to generate new ideas and creative campaign strategies and tactics;
- Supporting a collaborative and efficient culture of teamwork and assisting in setting and ensuring a collaborative productive work process;
- Writing, editing and fact-checking high volumes of content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and mechanics of style.
4. Other duties as may be assigned by the Business Manager, Communications Manager and/or Human Resources Department.
**Job Requirements**:
- A University Degree or College Diploma in Marketing, Communications, or similar;
- Certification in Event Management, Hospitality and Event Planning, and/or Event Marketing;
- Certification in English or Professional Writing considered an asset;
- Two (2) to three (3) years or more experience in the Communications field specialising in marketing, sales and events;
- Proven ability to achieved desired sales and growth goals;
- Proficiency in Adobe Suite including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop;
- Knowledge of the construction industry would be considered an asset;
- Excellent editing, writing, researching and messaging skills;
- Competent with sales and cost negotiations related to event details;
- Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building including comfort in conducting sales calls, pitching services and interacting with prospective clients;
- Experiencing in the administration of content and event calendars and scheduling;
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task multiple concurrent events, projects and tasks;
