**Regional Biologist, Southern Lakes (Whitehorse based)**

**This is a full time, permanent position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.**

**Environment - who we are**

At the Department of Environment, we strive to ensure that the quality of Yukon’s environment is maintained for present and future generations. The Fish and Wildlife Branch manages Yukon’s fish and wildlife populations and their habitats for the conservation, appreciation, and sustainable use through a team approach and in a manner that is collaborative and adaptive.

**Who we’re looking for - maybe it’s you**
- A degree in biology, ecology, or related discipline
- Considerable professional-level experience conducting biological field studies (e.g. budget management, logistics)
- Experience analyzing and interpreting biological data for the purposes of informing wildlife population management (eg, harvest scenarios, indicators of population stability, etc.)
- Experience providing technical expertise to processes that support wildlife and habitat management processes (e.g. for environmental assessments, land planning initiatives, wildlife harvest management planning, etc.);
- Experience communicating wildlife and/or habitat study results and complex biological concepts to a variety of audiences on behalf of the employer (e.g. to First Nations, Inuvialuit, co-management boards and councils, various public bodies, etc.)

- _Experience supervising or leading staff _
- Experience managing project budgets and contracts

- Problem solving including excellent analytical and judgement skills
- Interpersonal skills and partner focus, to build effective working relationships inside and outside the organization
- Project Management skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the biology and habitat requirements of wildlife and the principles of wildlife and habitat management;
- Communication skills to document, present, and connect with various audiences
- Ability to work autonomously

Conditions of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s licence (or equivalent)

Job Requirements: Travel to various communities, willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and to travel by small aircraft, ATV, boat and 4X4 truck. This position may work evenings and weekends.
