**YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE**

We are looking for a **Chemist 1** in #106- 8255 North Fraser Way, Burnaby, B.C. V3N OB9 CAN. Your mission will be to:

- Retrieve samples from designated areas (e.g. log-in, sample storage).
- Prepare & weigh samples as needed. Clean and prepare glassware as needed. Check & calibrate equipment before use as required.
- Label all samples throughout the process so that client and quality control samples can be tracked.
- Independently perform chemical analyses as designated.Ensure that proper analysis methods are conducted on appropriate sample matrices.
- Extract desired component(s) from sample accurately and precisely with appropriate processes such as distillation, solvent extraction, and acid digestion, so that concentrations can be determined.
- Perform necessary calculations and prepare standards and reagents that are needed for the analysis procedure.
- Where applicable, set-up method sequences and perform analyses with instrumentation (GC, LC, ICPMS, UV-Vis, FT-IR, etc.) and maintain laboratory instruments in working order; make any minor repairs that are necessary.
- Perform and document necessary instrument preventative maintenance on instrumentation according to identified schedules.
- Maintain equipment records in appropriate software systems.
- Perform calculations, checking and interpretation of results where applicable.Assess results in terms of accuracy and perform repeat testing as deemed necessary, in conjunction with senior staff or supervisor.Utilize computer software programs for calculating results where applicable.
- Where applicable, maintain laboratory instruments in working order and make any minor repairs that are necessary. Perform and document necessary preventative maintenance on instrumentation according to identified schedules.
- Track status of designated tests as assigned to ensure client turn around time commitments are met and inform supervisor of non-compliance.
- Advise and assist other departmental personnel with analysis tasks so that testing can proceed according to specified time limits.
- Update sample tracking form, transfer data and maintain records, including quality records for the specified tests, notify supervisor of any non-compliant results.
- Perform necessary housekeeping duties in a timely manner, keeping the work areas and equipment clean and sanitized.Participate in the cleaning schedule and maintain and retain samples as required.
- Train other analysts when required including transfer of theoretical knowledge and participate in the training programs.
- Ensure material/supplies are maintained and available for the next analysis including preparation of reagents where applicable.
- Coordinate with other department personnel with analysis tasks to maintain smooth flow of work
- Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
- Support local and corporate quality and the continuous improvement process, including participation in monitoring of quality parameters as assigned, and performance of necessary tasks related to quality control parameters for the test being performed.
- This position has the responsibility and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed non conformance system and the supervisor is notified.
- Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the management system.
- Adhere to all safety policies.

**YOUR PROFILE**
- This position typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree in a related discipline such as Chemistry or Food Science.
- A diploma from a recognized technical college may be considered with 1-2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- The incumbent needs a broad knowledge of analytical chemistry to perform analysis procedures.
- A broad knowledge of mathematics and statistical analysis are necessary to perform calculations.
- A basic knowledge of food science is needed to interpret results.
- A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System and Laboratory Instrument Data Systems are required to pr
