**Main Purpose and Function**
The Utility Maintenance Worker I performs routine to skilled maintenance and cleaning of swimming pool, steam and sauna, changing rooms/showers areas and surrounding facilities, assist in janitorial and preventative maintenance duties, performsrelated duties required or assigned. To be responsible for a variety of functions and activities related to thepreventive maintenance and repair of swimming pool equipment, and the cleaning and operation of swimming pools and to perform routine janitorial job functions. Work is performed as assigned or on a rotating shift basis.

We are hiring for two vacancies to work graveyard shifts. The working hours will be Sunday to Thursday 9:30 pm to 6:00 am or Sunday to Thursday 12:00 am to 8:30 am.

**Specific Duties and Responsibilities**
- Operates services and maintains pool chemical controllers and pumps, main circulating pumps and filtration and related equipment.
- Brushes, skims and vacuums swimming pool and strainers
- Conducts chemical tests or water and applies proper chemicals and adjusts amounts to bring pool water balance to standards within recommended ranges
- Conducts pool shut down by draining and filling pools, acid washing pools, filter sand replacement, and major servicing and PM maintenance HVAC, lighting and maintaining pool operation equipment
- Maintains and repairs chemical pumps, pumps, equipment and machinery used in the operation of the pool
- Backwashes and cleans swimming pool filtration systems
- Keeps pool and facility areas, walkways and equipment clean, serviced and safe
- Maintains and records daily records pertaining to the swimming pool operation and overall building
- Reviews and monitors the swimming pool maintenance activities to ensure compliance with Vancouver Coastal Health Standards and Regulations
- Ensures pool temperatures and chemical balance are maintained within acceptable ranges
- Vacuums the pool, cleans changing rooms, removes trash and sweeps the deck area to maintain such in asafety orderly condition
- Drains and acid washes the pool
- Maintains a supply of pool chemicals and advises supervisor of reordering stock
- Maintains records and prepares basic reports regarding pool usage and chemical additions
- Maintains and repairs locker devices
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of the sensitive aquatic environment as related to duties
- Assists in reporting and preventing facility vandalism
- Performs basic preventive maintenance and lubrication on pumps, motors and related equipment
- Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site
- Maintains a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work
- Performs routine janitorial job functions and responsibility.
- Cleans changing rooms and washrooms
- Ensures proper labeling, dilution and use of all chemicals
- Wears proper personal protective equipment at all times
- Cleans grounds and parking lots of litter, glass or other debris
- Removes snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers and snowshovels and spreading ice melt/salt in areas
- Monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours andopening doors for regular operating hours, checking to ensure that hazards are not created or prevented.
- Plays an active role in reporting and investigating emergency situations
- Makes rounds of the building and grounds at regular intervals at night inspecting doors, windows, and locks to see that they are properly and securely fastened.
- Observes appearances and conditions of premises and equipment, reports needed repairs, service, safety hazards or conditions requiring attention to the supervisor.
- Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes and tags accordantly if ballast failure
- Coordinates the work of janitorial team by assigning, scheduling and assessing the competition of work and tasks.
- Ensures quality control and best practices be inspecting work in progress and upon competition.
