The Roots Practitioner will work with and explore the Indigenous child’s family and community for the purpose of cultural connections, relationships, family support and permanency. The position is responsible to develop and facilitate programs to support cultural connections for children and their families and to promote cultural understanding for caregivers, staff, and services providers.

There are several permanent job opportunities available for Roots Practitioners to support the work on Indigenous service teams including Child Protection, Children and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) and Youth Services. The Roots Practitioner provides cultural support and understanding for the children, youth and families receiving Ministry services across all service areas.

**Job Requirements**:

- Diploma or higher in Health/Human Service or related field plus **related experience**; **Or**:

- Certificate in Health/Human Service or related field plus 2 years **related experience**.
- **Related Experience must include**:

- Experience working with Indigenous families and communities.

**Preference may be given to applicants with the following**:

- Experience working with Indigenous children and youth who are in care, or Indigenous children, youth and families in a community social services setting.
- Experience developing and/or facilitating programs/events that promote cultural understanding and or cultural teachings and awareness.
- Applicants who have experience working with Indigenous communities with demonstrated links to those communities.
- Applicants who have Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

**Willingness Statements**:

- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver's licence.
- Required to travel to Indigenous communities within BC and throughout Canada.
- May be required to work evening/weekends.
- May be required to regularly travel in remote locations.
- May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis with appropriate insurance coverage.
- May be exposed to unpleasant dealings in often emotionally charged situations.
