Whiting Equipment seeks an in-house legal counsel with experience in commercial contracting and general legal support.
- Drafting, analyzing, and providing advice on a variety of commercial contracts of varying scope and complexity;
- Working with internal stakeholders, as well as Whiting Equipment’s customers to negotiate agreements in relation to the sale of core custom fabricated equipment;
- Providing legal support to Whiting Equipment’s external affiliated business units;
- Advising internal stakeholders on commercial disputes prior to the formal dispute resolution process commencing and providing litigation risk assessments;
- Provide labour law support by leading collective agreement negotiations, grievance response and collective agreement interpretation for front line supervisors;
- Manage employment law related matters consisting of employment agreements, terminations and updating and implementing appropriate hiring documentation for all provinces;
- Ensure corporate policy is manual is updated and provide supervisor training on new policies and legal developments as the regulations change;
- Draft corporate board resolutions and ensure minute book completeness;
- Draft and negotiate agent and partner agreements;
- Prepare and represent company in matters before various boards and tribunals such as WSIAT;

**Qualifications**:

- Licensed by the Law Society of Ontario;
- Prior experience handling, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts and providing legal support in a business environment;
- Law firm experience and prior in-house counsel experience within a corporate legal department is a plus;
- Strong negotiation skills, attention to detail and strong communication skills are essential;
- Must possess general business understanding and ability to translate legal advice into clear and actionable direction for front line teams;
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations including workers’ compensation and ESA regulations is beneficial;
- Ability to communicate in French is an asset, but not mandatory;
- Previous experience with international markets, especially China is a benefit.
