S&C Responsibilities
The S&C (Signals & Communications) Analyst is responsible for providing advice and guidance regarding railway signaling and communications and performing back-office tasks associated with the repair and installation of trackside assets, communications, and related infrastructure. The position-holder works in close collaboration with the field staff the address problems.
S&C Analyst Duties
- Provide remote support to S&C field maintenance personnel by providing first-hand expertise or using electronic test equipment or computer software.
- Perform routine system performance monitoring (GTCS overview, packet switch data, ATCS network RF analysis, MPLS circuit performance statistics, remote logging onto field MCP’s).
- Perform diagnostic health checks, monitor alarms, and perform field incident analysis and playback from any USRC subzone, CTC control point, and WIS Location.
- Monitor and perform alarm checks of the internal system, including performance observations, blade server checks with alarm logging
- Analyze overall network health status and document/log observations daily
- Work with telecommunications providers on circuits and cloud connectivity and the implementation of new circuits and hardware.
- Support root causes analyses and investigation on incidents (signal failures, switch failures, block indications, power off, site communications failures).
- Provide training and guidance to fault controllers, S&C Technicians, and Senior Operations controllers
- Conduct and support investigations and consequent reporting unintended events, either at the control center or trackside field.
- Implement the best possible action plan of response to mitigate further damage/time during unplanned emergency operations
- Support field staff for testing and commissioning
- Support third-party providers (i.e., utilities, municipalities, emergency medical services, etc.) during outages or emergency operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications: Essential
- Five years of relevant experience in CTC code line and code line related equipment, including proven experience with microprocessor-based interlocking systems
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of track, switches, and crossings
- College or university diploma in the field of Electronics/Electrical Engineering
- Experience in S&C maintenance combined with the completion of an approved Railway Signal Maintenance training program or equivalent
- Strong communications skills; ability to sustain technical conversations by phone with field maintenance employees
- Valid drivers' license (G).
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of railway SCADA / monitoring systems preferred.
