Early Childhood Educator Assistant (Temporary)

Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.

We are looking for Early Childhood Educator Assistants (ECE-A) to join our growing Early Learning Team in the Richmond School District.

The ECE-A supports all aspects of programming in our Just B4 Preschools in partnership with Early Childhood Educators. The ECE-A supports Early Childhood Educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children and works collaboratively to ensure that all students are safe, accepted, and respected.

**Responsibilities**:
(This is not an exhaustive list of the duties to be performed)

Supports Early Childhood Educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children

Supports and responds to different learning styles in daily routines

Supervises and ensures a safe environment for children in all spaces

Engages children in activities such as stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts etc.

Prepares snacks and assists in housekeeping duties

Assists children with eating, dressing and toileting

Communicates with professionals involved and assists in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities

Participates in team planning and staff meetings

Accepts direction from teaching staff and colleagues

Assists Early Childhood Educators or supervisors in keeping records

Required Qualifications

Grade 12 or equivalent

A valid clear criminal record check (for working with children and vulnerable populations)

Experience working with Early Learners (aged 0-8)

Early Childhood Education A certificate or Responsible Adult Certificate would be an asset.

Experience in a licensed setting including experience working with children from birth to age 8 and/or in school setting with primary children would be an asset

Ability to work effectively with a variety of parents, caregivers, diverse populations, professionals, school and community members

Ability to implement a variety of activities for a diverse group of children with a range of ages

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Able to maintain effective working relationships with school staff and work cooperatively with other Assistants, Educators, Administrators and other staff members.

First Aid and Foodsafe certification would be an asset.

This is a temporary 18.75 hour per week position until June 30, 2023. This position is in the bargaining unit, with an hourly rate of pay of $24.58.
