We have an amazingnew **full-time permanent **opportunity for a **Trial Plant Assistant. **This role assists with maintaining designated trial plants to ensure they are kept in prime condition for evaluation - ensuring that data, observations and final decisions taken from the plants are accurate and production goals are met for release.

**Goals for this role**:
Ensure trial plants tasks (irrigating, fertilizing, pruning, sticking, transplanting) are on track with guidance from the Curo Program Manager:

- Irrigation
- Fertilizing
- Pruning
- Cutting/Sticking
- Transplanting
- Maintaining a clean, organized, weed free workspace

Organize and collect data and photos for the plants that are assigned:
Create trial scenarios and different growing environments for trial plants to track

Be an active backup for the Curo Program Manager and Garden and Trial Plant team.

Communicate well and work cohesively with the Van Belle Nursery Young Plants growing team.

**Responsibilities for this role**:
**Plants**
- Help to coordinate and complete production processes with accuracy, recording data through Plantango or the provided trial plant data tracking worksheet (transplanting, cutting, sticking, fertilizing,, irrigation, pruning, EC and pH measurements and moving).
- Maintain accurate work records, such as scheduling pruning, fertilizing and moving plants in Enterprise software, completing entry records and labeling for transplanting, cutting and sticking tasks.
- Help to maintain accurate data collection and photos in the Trial team data tracking worksheet and Google photo albums for the assigned plants.
- Make suggestions and execute different methods of growing the trial plants to put them through the best test.
- Receive materials/plants and complete monitoring inspections, as assigned.
- Plan proactively for space needs both for summer potting activities and winter (forcing and winter storage)
- Report any problems you find with pest and disease both in H2O and to the Curo Program Manager.
- Assist with maintaining and producing plants on time for trade shows and marketing purposes.
- Take EC and pH measurements of water, fertilizer solutions and media.
- Track greenhouse environment data and climate data for trial plants.
- Ensure varieties that are to be released (TBR’s) are on track to reach target production numbers.
- Ensure every trial plant is well labeled to prevent mixing.

**People**
- Supervising a small labour team, when assigned, to complete tasks and ensuring they maintain a safe, organized and clean work environment.
- Ensure staff are well-trained before completing procedures.
- Ensure equipment, and machinery is operated in a good and safe condition.
- Report health and safety concerns to the Safety Committee.

**Finances/Planning**
- Purchasing materials/sending purchase orders, as needed.
- Collect and upload all necessary incoming plant paperwork to Enterprise software, and provide them to the CNCP Certification Manager, as needed.
- Review, correct and verify inventory reports, as needed.
- Assist with inputting costs into Plantango as new plants/sizes are brought in.
- Assist with adding information and materials into production plans, as needed.
- Responsible for inventory accuracy of plants (numbers, locations, ready dates for TBR varieties) and growing supplies.

**Assist the Curo Program Manager with other duties as assigned.**

**Requirements for this role**:

- 1 Year of growing experience with ornamental nurseries or in the horticulture business.
- Certificate, Diploma, Degree in any field of Agriculture / Horticulture
- Good knowledge of Argus/Priva climate systems
- Some fluency in Spanish is an asset
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Skills in computer software, such as the Google suite platform
- Ability to multi-task effectively with excellent attention-to-detail
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: From $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 60 per week
