Educational Assistant - ABA Social Emotional Learning Programs

- At iHealthOX, we strive to provide comprehensive mental health care to our diverse clientele, addressing unique needs with personalized approaches. We're currently seeking a dedicated and patient Educational Assistant to support our ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) Social Emotional Learning programs. This role is vital in facilitating the inclusion of students with diverse needs and helping them become independent learners and active community members.

**Responsibilities**:

- Observe and document learner strengths, achievements, needs, and behaviors through daily learning activities
- Review and reinforce learning activities using lesson plans and learning strategies developed by the learning support team
- Gather and share relevant information about individual learner performance and behavior to support IEP goals, transitions, and program design
- Support students in learning communication skills and social/emotional strategies
- Assist students with the use of educational technology and various assistive communication modalities
- Collaborate with the teacher to produce materials and implement strategies to accommodate individual learner needs
- Reinforce classroom expectations and manage significant incidents during brief teacher/ BCBA absences
- Support student learning through school activities, one-on-one or small groups, field trips, work experience programs, and special events
- Provide assistance to students in case of injury or illness and perform assigned duties during emergency situations
- Assist students with personal care tasks such as feeding, hygiene, and toileting
- Stay updated on school, district, and provincial policies and procedures e.g., Provincial Physical Restraint and Seclusion Guidelines

Qualifications:

- Grade 12 or equivalent and a one-year Education Assistant and Community Support Worker certificate or equivalent
- Current Level One First Aid
- One-year specific experience working with individuals with diverse learning needs
- Familiarity with learning styles and support requirements for learning to adapt materials for students
- Knowledge of positive collaborative behavior support and social/emotional strategies
- Familiarity with non-violent conflict resolution methods
- Understanding of inclusion principles and school systems, district policies, and procedures
- Ability to support and implement IEP goals, adaptations, or modifications
- Ability to understand and work with core curriculum at the appropriate grade level(s) and language of instruction
- Able to provide personal care such as feeding, toileting, and dressing on occasion
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and diplomacy
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and to document student behaviors over time

Physical Requirements:

- Sufficient vision and hearing to perform related job duties
- Desktop self-sufficiency for digital communication
- Physical ability to work with students at their level, such as squatting, kneeling, and sitting on the floor
- Ability to lift up to 22 kgs (50 lbs) and operate related equipment on occasion
- Ability to perform related physical and mental activities
