The Clinical NM Physicist participates in the development and assessment of quantitative imaging and dosimetry studies for clinical diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures (clinical and research). The Clinical NM Physicist works collaboratively with the BC Cancer Molecular Imaging and Therapy Program staff, regional Medical Physicists, and Radiation Safety Officers in maintaining a regulatory compliant provincial radiation safety program and participates in facility design and the control of radioactive source inventory. Additionally, the Clinical NM Physicist takes responsibility for radiation safety for the Institute of Advanced Medical Isotopes (IAMI) working in collaboration with TRIUMF and supports radiation safety for the Molecular Imaging and Therapy departments around the province, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards.
The Clinical NM Physicist participates in research related to physics in molecular imaging and therapy and instrumentation and cancer care, including making contributions to and providing recommendations for new imaging and data analysis techniques/methodologies and modifications, maintaining imaging servers, and teaching and mentoring staff/students on current and new imaging developments.
**What you’ll do**
- Develop and administer the technical aspects of the functional imaging quality assurance program, including equipment testing for functional and operational fitness.
- Maintain the quality assurance program by ensuring compliance with procedures for quality control of radioisotopes, including logging testing data and periodic certification and calibration of equipment.
- Advise vendor service personnel and staff regarding corrective actions and trouble-shooting difficult or unusual problems and coordinates ongoing equipment maintenance.
- Perform internal radiation dosimetry calculations for radiopharmaceutical therapies and research studies.
- In collaboration with IMITS, technical and medical staff, and researchers, provide support for departmental and clinical trial computer systems, including Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) software, by coordinating system configuration, authorization and access, performing data management functions to ensure accuracy and quality of the data, and participating in the development and maintenance of system tools.
**What you bring**
Qualifications:
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Physics, Medical Physics or a related discipline specializing in Medical Imaging from an accredited university.
- Two (2) years of clinical experience in medical imaging physics in a PET imaging program.
- Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) or American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Nuclear Medicine Physics subspecialty or American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine (ABSNM) certification is required within two (2) years of entering this level.
You have:
- Knowledge of Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulations related to medical imaging.
- Knowledge in medical imaging technologies with a focus on PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine.
- Comprehensive knowledge of radiation and radiation safety with the ability to teach.
- Demonstrate knowledge in dosimetry calculations for radiopharmaceutical therapies.
- Experience with training and use of artificial intelligence models for medical imaging is an asset.
- Excellent computer skills, notably with the use of dosimetry software, and excellent programming skills with knowledge of MATLAB, Python, and/or other relevant programming languages.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with computer systems and servers used in research.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
