The **Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent** is an independent and not-for profit charitable organization in Chatham, Ontario that provides supports and services for those affected by Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementias. For over 35 years, we have had a strong commitment to collaborating with our community partners and our mission: _to improve the quality of life of people affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias through education, outreach, effective programming and research._ Programming includes but is not limited to, 2 locations of Adult Day Programs, In-Home Respite, First Link Care Navigation and support, Education and Behavioural Supports Ontario
The Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent is currently recruiting passionate and dedicated **PSW’s **to work in our **In-Home Respite Care Program**. In-Home Respite Care Workers provide person-centered care to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias in their home environment while providing the care partners with a break from caregiving responsibilities.
**Responsibilities**
- Works closely with the In-Home Respite Coordinator, and In-Home Respite Supervisor
- Utilizes person-centered approaches to care understanding that each individual is unique
- Assists individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias living at home with their daily routine
- Provides personal care to clients (such as bathing, dressing, grooming)
- Supports physical and social activities to maintain skills and abilities
- Assists with light housekeeping and meal planning and preparation
- Provides regular written and verbal or electronic progress reports to the In-Home Respite Supervisor
**Requirements**:
- PSW Certification
- Current cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training (CPR)
- Valid driver’s license
- Access to a dependable vehicle
- Recent Criminal background check
- Ability to manage a schedule at one or more locations (throughout Chatham-Kent) in a day
- Ability to understand and work with clients with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias and use resources to adjust to varying demands
- Shift flexibility (evening and weekend) and short-notice shifts may be required
**Qualifications**
- PSW Certification
- Knowledge, work experience and sensitivity for people affected by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia is required
- A passion and understanding that consistency is a critical component of care
- Ability to utilize best practice care within scope of PSW role
- Demonstrated professional work ethic with internal and external contacts
- Demonstrated effectiveness working with mínimal supervision, proven reliability and trustworthiness
- Excellent written and verbal skills for both receiving and providing information
