**Job Description**:
The Fine Arts Department is seeking an Instructor in the Fall 2024 semester to teach the following in-person courses:
FINA 1142 Foundation Design (two sections)

FINA 2101 Advanced Design I (one section)

FINA 2161 Public Art Studio Practice I (one section)

There is a possibility of re-appointment in the Spring 2025 semester for courses also in Design and Public Art.

1. Experience guiding students through Industrial Design methods,

emphasizing both 2D and 3D design skills in the development and visual communication of three-dimensional objects.

2. Facilitate hands-on projects and exercises that allow students to explore various object design strategies.

3. Experience mentoring students in the formulation of design briefs, advanced sketching techniques, and prototyping.

5. Ability to foster an understanding of the potential interconnections with other studio courses in the Fine Arts diploma program.

6. Ability to foster an understanding of the broader impacts of design, including sustainability and cultural context.

1. Experience with and/or understanding of Public Art processes, with

emphasis on design and production of semi-permanent, two-dimensional and three-dimensional built work for the public realm.

2. Understanding of the role Public Art can have within an emergent Fine Art studio practice, and its potential impact within the public realm.

3. Experience in design and fabrication of medium-scale metal work for

installation in the public realm, and the ability to guide this process with students.

4. Experience in design and execution of large-scale two-dimensional work

(i.e. vinyl installation of transit station windows), including coordination of print-ready files.

5. Experience with project management of built work for the public realm.

6. Extensive knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques that can with stand the Vancouver climate.

7. Knowledge of Public Art projects existing in the Vancouver area.

Instructors teaching the Design and Public Art Studio Practice courses must demonstrate knowledge of WHIMIS, safety procedures and equipment pertaining to the above materials, tools, and techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The work includes:
1. Four hours of class time per week per section

2. Lectures, demonstrations and guidance on student projects

3. Initiating critiques, one-on-one feedback, and evaluation of projects

4. Weekly office hours

5. Participation in departmental activities and meetings

6. Liaison with college departments and personnel (including Facilities), InTransit (coordinator of Canada Line projects), equipment operators and suppliers as part of the two yearly public art installations at the Langara-49th Canada Line Station.

Required Qualifications:
1. Masters Degree in Design and/or Architecture, or a related field.

2. Minimum of 2 years teaching at post-secondary level or equivalent, including recent student evaluations and relevant samples of student work

3. A demonstrated professional practice in Industrial Design, Architecture, and/or Public Art.
