Assessment accommodation

**Duties**:
The proposed research project aims to use physical, mineralogical, and geochemical properties of surface and subsurface sediments retrieved on the Scotian Shelf, Canada. The data will be used to (1) characterize the spatial distribution of the surface sediments on the continental shelf including the development of a geospatial modelling method, (2) define the transport processes of detrital sediments on the shelf, and (3) document the processes and condition of transport over specific areas on the Scotian Shelf. The hired student as part of this PhD project could have the opportunity to participate on scientific cruises and will attend national and international scientific meetings. The student will realize laboratories duties related to the project (e.g., grain size, sedimentological, geochemical, mineralogical analyses) and write his PhD thesis as scientific papers.

**Work environment**:
The PhD project will be supervised by Research Scientist Pierre-Arnaud Desiage at GSCA and Professor Jean-Carlos Montero-Serrano at ISMER-UQAR. The student recruited as part of this PhD project will complete his cursus at the University of Quebec at Rimouski (UQAR) followed by visits at the Geological Survey of Canada in Dartmouth. The Geological Survey of Canada (Atlantic; GSCA) located in Dartmouth (Nova Scotia, Canada), is a research leader in marine geology and has numerous laboratories as well as state-of-the-art analytical infrastructures. ISMER-UQAR, located in Rimouski (Québec, Canada), is a multidisciplinary oceanographic research center and a major player in marine sciences.

The intention is to staff one (1) student position for the completion of a Doctorate of Oceanography degree at the University of Quebec at Rimouski (UQAR) within ISMER.
