**Description**
Working closely with the Treaty Team, the Communications Coordinator productively carries out support functions by providing effective, innovative, professional, and timely assistance with solutions to meet the Treaty department’s goals and to ensure SXFN members are informed and up-to-date on treaty issues and the ways they can participate. The Communications Coordinator actively develops communications using social media posts, website, drone footage, video creation, and using the most up-to-date technology. The Communications Coordinator must be willing to learn and proactively be involved in SXFN community events and to have a positive approach to supporting and following through with a variety of Treaty and Communication projects.

**Duties**
**Communications**:

- Leads, develops, and coordinates communication policy and strategies regarding treaty activities and issues
- Informs and educates on treaty, treaty related and post treaty issues
- Provides the technical set up, organization and physical set up for meetings (i.e., Teams, Zoom, recording, projection, and sound) on a regular basis
- Assists the treaty department and treaty team to organize urban meetings, land tours and other events
- Develops, maintains and coordinates a contact list of members for communications and other treaty related requirements, enters member information into contact list
- Participates in and coordinates special public relations projects on treaty related matters
- Documents and provides written summaries of meetings
- Stays current with all Treaty negotiation, self-government and post Treaty information to be able to keep the community informed.

**Media Relations**:

- Develops, coordinates and implements social media messages and responds to comments on social media
- Informs the media and the public of upcoming treaty activities including protocols and participation
- Writes press releases for the governing body to respond to media and public inquiries regarding treaty activities and issues
- Contributes to the NStQ Lexey’em monthly newsletter
- Develops videos using drone footage, meeting recordings and other source data to help the community stay informed
- Builds technology skills and stays current with technology advances

**Qualifications**
Advanced computer skills, Intellectually curious, knowledge of media software (CS4, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), video production and editing, web design, poster software (Canva or Adobe)
Excellent communication skills, presentation and facilitation skills
Grade 12 plus post-secondary education in communications, graphic arts, English, First Nations Studies, English, Journalism, Public Relations and/or a related field or combination of equivalent experience
