The Youth Concurrent Disorders Worker supports urban Indigenous youth aged 16-24 with combined mental health and substance use issues to enhance their wellbeing and create balance. The program utilizes a wholistic approach by providing adaptive engagement and various programming to address the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of each client. The Youth Concurrent Disorders Worker will provide support in both group and one-on-one counselling, advocacy and wellness planning to enhance the youth’s knowledge, skills and techniques to lead a healthy balanced lifestyle.

The Worker will be responsible to follow the policies and procedures as determined by the Board of Directors and under the direct daily supervision of the Executive Director or designate.

**Qualifications**:

- 2-year College Diploma or a University Degree in Social Service and/or Concurrent Disorders, or a combination of an equivalent and relevant education, skills and abilities as determined by the employer;
- 3-5 years of demonstrated and related work experience within the mental health and substance use field;
- Understanding of historical trauma in relation to mental health and substance use from an Indigenous perspective;
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, and both historical and contemporary indigenous issues. Emphasis being on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, indigenous youth engagement and community outreach;
- Ability to develop, implement and evaluate workshops and groups;
- Knowledge and experience in working from a youth centered approach regarding engagement, counselling, intervention and treatment models;
- Strong communication, listening and interview skills, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities;
- Awareness of trauma informed approaches within an Indigenous cultural context;
- A strong foundation of Indigenous teachings and ceremonies to promote a foundation for growth, health and healing;
- Must have excellent written, verbal, time management and organizational skills;
- Non-violent Crisis intervention and First Aid/CPR certification required or be willing to be certified;
- Possess a valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel when required; and,
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory CPIC- Vulnerable Sector within 30 days of employment start date as a condition of the employment offer

HRIC is a highly flexible organization offering additional compensation including 5 paid cultural days, 4 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, paid shutdown over the Christmas holiday week, and health benefits. HRIC health benefits are offered to full time permanent employees, employees will be able to enroll upon the successful completion of their (3) three-month probationary period.
