Primary Duties
- Schedules and arranges work and ensures all work is organized in preparation for field staff to complete.
- Produces technical drawings, designs, layouts, material lists, arranges locates, prepares RFP/RFQ/tender documents to secure construction services, prepares and issues contracts.
- Acting as contract administrator, ensure all civil construction work is completed in accordance with standards and specifications, confirm quantities for contract payment, prepare contract payments.
- Will be accountable for planning, designing and co ordinating electrical and civil construction activities related to street light and traffic signal projects
- Will prepare sketches, concepts, plans, design and construction drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics for electrical and civil works, for traffic signal work associated with intersection design, and prepare drawings for an Engineer approval.
- Complete studies, research, calculations, and reports and makes recommendations related to tendering documents, technical drawings, specifications or work practices.
- Assist in the preparation or modification of specifications, tendering documents, technical drawings or specifications.
- Liaise, consult and co-ordinate with other departments, external agencies such as Hydro 1, and City staff regarding pending work, provide cost estimates for capital projects, capital maintenance and renewal activities, assist and contribute on capital and operating budgets,
- Will maintain records, databases and information, conduct/arrange condition assessments to facilitate asset management activities.
- Will be accountable for the review, evaluation and the provisions of recommendations, comments or conditions of approval on development submissions involving street lights or traffic signals for conformity to City standards and provide advice to developer driven traffic and street light proposals ensuring compliance with specifications, standards and good engineering principles.
- Will respond to public and Councilor enquiries regarding traffic and street light issues.
- Co-ordinate with other utility/city infrastructure activities, municipal staff and consultants to ensure timely provision of service.
- Co-ordinate, consult and assist field operations staff on project implementation
- Develop and track work schedules for assigned projects and other duties, as assigned

Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required
- Diploma in a three year Engineering Technology (Electrical preferred) program from an accredited Community College
- A minimum of 2-4 years of related utility experience in design, planning, inspection and contract administration involving underground and overhead systems involving street and traffic lights. Some familiarity with IMSA is considered an asset.
- Experience in Microsoft Office 2000, AutoCAD 2000.
- Valid Class G driver’s license
