A Labourer II in Infrastructure Maintenance is a semi-skilled manual labour position. Tasks of this nature involve the use of some acquired skills. Duties include the ability to use a variety of hand tools and power tools including but not limited to jackhammers, power saws, power drills, etc. Frequent operation of motor vehicles and other equipment pertaining to the task of maintaining bridge structures. In this position employees will be working with concrete repair materials, and will require the worker to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment for some work activities.

- Travel to various job sites as assigned in relation to a predetermined schedule
- Participates in on site field condition review and hazard assessments
- Provide lead hand guidance while on site
- Set up of equipment and traffic control as directed
- Disassemble or remove damaged or deteriorated bridge components (steel, timber, or concrete) as directed
- Operate jack hammers and other tools and equipment to remove concrete on bridge deck, mix concrete patching and fill chipped out area
- Repair, replace or install new assets to specifications (steel, timber, or concrete) as directed.
- Actively participate in field and classroom training
- Measure, align, and adhere to specifications of many different asset types
- Keep the operational area tidy during work and clean up at the end of task
- Load, transport, and unload materials and tools
- Ensure that the tools, equipment, and material are loaded in truck prior to leaving the yard
- Physical strength and agility to perform the work
- Work with mínimal supervision and make decisions about performance of tasks
- Understand and effectively carry out instructions and prepare simple work records
- Report any damage to equipment, vehicles, city owned and private property through the proper chain of command
- Safe operation of equipment; skid steer, tool cat, etc. with proven competency in the methods and practices of operation of assigned tools and equipment
- Proper operation and daily maintenance of all equipment included in the operation of your task.
- Effectively carry out instructions and prepare simple work records
- Ensure any equipment and citizen issues are communicated to direct supervisor and reported properly.
- Perform duties and contribute to a respectful workplace
- Be an active and contributing member on the crew and communicate work tasks and safety considerations effectively
- Perform other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of the 10th school grade
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the maintenance of bridge structures
- Ability to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
- Ability to detect minor defects in equipment used
- Knowledge of the daily maintenance required on the equipment
- Good knowledge of the methods and practices used in operating and caring for equipment
- Knowledge of the PARS Operating Procedures and SOP’s
- Emergency First Aid Certificate
- Physical capable of performing the duties assigned to the position class
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Ability to work alone, unsupervised and meet goals and objections based on understanding of larger dynamics
- Adaptable to changing priorities, whether because of managerial direction or weather dependency
- Ability to work and operate equipment in a safe manner
- Ability to use computers, tablets, etc for recording information associated with work
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
