**Responsibilities**:
The Laboratory Supervisor provides operational leadership in the maintenance of and safe work practices in laboratory sessions, provides training and oversight to students and Teaching Assistants to ensure laboratory sessions are delivered safely, properly and consistently in the Department of Chemistry. The role assists with the planning and coordination of lab staffing schedules, ensures the availability and procurement of materials and information necessary for labs, and assists with planning course budgets for approval and tracking expenses. The Laboratory Supervisor also assists with developing and preparing laboratory experiments and sessions with regards to the facilities, experimental procedures, documentation and materials, equipment, instrumentation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- 4 year University Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry
- Experience:
- 4 years’ experience developing protocols, providing team supervision, and ensuring safety in a chemical laboratory or educational environment
- Experience supervising students and teaching assistants in a chemical laboratory environment is preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In depth knowledge of common laboratory practices, safe handling procedures, WHMIS and MSDS
- Knowledge of methods for research design, implementation, and analysis and with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and analyses
- Ability to provide training and guidance to employees to meet high performance standards, while working effectively as a member of the team
- Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
- Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
- Critical thinking skills to analyze problems, and collect information required to make an accurate conclusion
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Attention to detail with an ability to retrieve, analyze and synthesize data
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
- Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
