**JOB POSITION FOR A COUNSELLOR/OUTREACH WORKER**

**Counsellor/Outreach Worker provides individual and/or group counselling, support, outreach, and advocacy services to women and families.**

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide counselling services from a feminist and trauma-based perspective which respects everyone’s individual rights, safety, and human dignity, regardless of economic status, gender, race, cultural or ethnic origins, physical or mental ability, or sexuality.
- Facilitate women’s understanding of their experiences and explore the specific behavioural, emotional, cognitive, and physical consequences of the trauma.
- Understand abuse in relationships, substance use, mental illness, and their relationship to the clients who have experienced trauma.
- Provide local transportation, accompaniment, and advocacy as required (e.g., medical emergencies, legal, or social service appointments).
- Make safety plans with women.
- Identify and address the needs of the clients and make referrals as appropriate.
- Complete monthly stats and reports as required.
- Provide a written month summary report and attend the monthly collective meetings to present the summary report.
- Maintain accurate records of all support provided for the purposes of statistics and legal records as per contract requirements.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor’s degree in social work preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related field
- An equivalent in education, training and years of experience
- Must approach work from a feminist perspective
- Experience working in a feminist women’s centered environment an asset

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Work independently and as a team leader
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Possess basic computer literacy skills
- Prioritize and organize time and work assignments independently
- Possess a knowledge of grant/proposal writing an asset
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel

**JOB TYPE**:Temporary full-time (40 hours/week) for the period of six months with the possibility for extension
