**Lead Hand Plumber**

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Performs skilled plumbing work at the journeyman level in the installation, construction, alteration, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and/or service of plumbing equipment and systems; installs, tests, maintains and repairs natural gas lines, medical gas distribution systems, appliances, equipment and accessories, inspects and tests cross connection and backflow prevention systems, in compliance with applicable codes and regulations, supervises other plumbers and designated staff.

**What you’ll do**
- Supervises designated plumbers, other designated trade-related journeyman staff and maintenance workers by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, inspecting completed work project to ensure conformance with established standards, evaluating employee performance and determines related training and orientation requirements; establishes and oversees a preventative maintenance program.
- Reviews work requests and consults with user departments regarding specifications and other project requirements; interprets blueprint drawings and specifications to determine the required materials and equipment; calculates materials and labour in estimating the cost of projects and makes recommendations as required.
- Prepares for work projects by performing operational and safety risk assessments; arranges work schedules with user departments and assembles supplies, tools and equipment; installs and repairs pipes and plumbing systems by bolting, soldering, gluing, grooving, caulking and brazing.
- Repairs and/or replaces items such as pipes, valves and fixtures by cutting, bending, threading and assembling.
- Carries out a preventative plumbing maintenance program by inspecting piping systems and other plumbing fixtures for repair and maintenance, conforming to applicable codes and regulations; performs diagnostic corrections and repairs using recognized methods.
- Installs, tests, maintains and repairs natural gas lines, appliances, equipment and accessories in accordance with BC Gas Safety Code.
- Inspects and tests a variety of cross connection control devices such as reduced pressure backflow assemblies, double checks valve assemblies and pressure vacuum assemblies using equipment such as water columns and differential gauges.
- Coordinates and prepares work plans associated with required planned building systems shut-downs and/or other service interruptions within areas of responsibility; forwards work plans to the Facilities Operations group to obtain required authorization to proceed with the planned service interruption; assists Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Emergency Planning and Response by producing user impact information required for site wide communication plans.
- Monitors and updates preventive maintenance tasks in the area of responsibility and other areas as required; provides updates to the designated Supervisor/Manager for the purpose of updating the computerized preventive maintenance system database.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment and tools; completes associated reports and records; evaluates/recommends purchase or related equipment and supplies; requisitions supplies and equipment, as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**What you bring**

**Qualifications**:

- Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification as a journeyman Plumber, Class B Gas Fitters license with an electrical endorsement recognized by the Province of BC.
- Valid Certificate of Competency as a Cross Connection Control Specialist issued by the American Water Works Association, BC Section.
- Two (2) years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
