**Poverty Reduction Worker**

**Part-time position - 2.5 days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays)**

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Poverty Reduction Worker responds to all requests and provides wraparound services to the users of the Food Bank. Using a holistic approach, focused on the client and their strengths, the Poverty Reduction worker intervenes with users of the Food Bank to analyze their needs, develop with them a personalized intervention plan, support in the implementation of the intervention plan in collaboration with the other team members and community partners and assesses the needs of the client and refers to appropriate resources. The worker provides information, advocacy and refers to other services, if necessary.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Poverty reduction worker, is engaged in community liaison, education and outreach services on issues and programs offered at the Centre. The person identifies the needs of the community from a program planning and development perspective. The incumbent shares with the team the needs of the clients as well as the direction and objectives of the service.

The responsibilities of this position are:

- Assess client needs
- Work one evening per week
- Develop personalized interventions plans
- Ensure follow-up meetings
- Work collaboratively with the client, and other team members to implement and monitor individualized intervention plans
- Provide support to the client
- Provides accompaniment services to clients, when required
- In collaboration with other partners, develop and implement resources to support and develop the skills of the clients
- Refer to appropriate resources (internal and external)
- Follow up following referrals to services
- Provide crisis counselling as well as short term counselling services in person, virtually and by telephone
- Facilitate support groups or information sessions in response to presenting needs
- Maintain and update client files and case notes.
- Prepares and maintains all necessary documentation and statistical records related to the position
- Supervises student placements as required
- Performs other related duties.

**Qualifications**:

- BSW, or degree in another related discipline; will also consider diploma from a post secondary institution with relevant experience
- Minimum of two years experience in a community-based social service agency as a front-line worker
- Minimum experience of two years in individual and group intervention.
- Experience in intervention in the following issues: violence, poverty, mental health, addictions.
- Experience working with low-income individuals and an appreciation of social issues.
- Fluent in French and English, both oral and written
- Excellent intervention skills in both English and French.
- Communicate in a third language is an asset, particularly Somali and Arabic
- Egalitarian philosophy and attitude of non-judgment (e.g. gender, culture, race, sexual orientation and other).
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are an asset.
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evening and weekends
- Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- A willingness to maintain high quality, client centered services through superior organizational and problem-solving skills

**Job Type**: Part-time
