**POSITION PURPOSE**

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, Transit Enforcement, is responsible for enforcing the York Region and applicable local Municipal by-laws applicable to transit, the Criminal Code of Canada, and other related federal and provincial statutes on or in relation to all York Region Transit and affiliated properties, as well as providing customer service assistance and security protection to all York Region Transit patrons, equipment, and properties.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensures consistent and non-discriminatory enforcement of the relevant applicable by-laws including processing, and arresting persons in contravention of relevant federal and provincial laws/statutes on York Region Transit and affiliated properties.
- Issues appropriate offence notices, summonses, or appearance notices to individuals for non-compliance.
- Assists York Regional Police in the transportation and processing of arrested persons and assists in criminal investigations as required.
- Attends court sessions and provides expert testimony as required.
- Provides first level emergency response assistance, as required.
- Conducts patrols of premises, protects site or evidence, obtains statements from witnesses, and provides first aid and/or assistance, as required.
- Responds, investigates alarms and provides assistance as needed.
- Investigates and resolves any issues involving fraudulent activities, customer inquiries, issues, and concerns in accordance to operating procedures.
- Performs crowd control as required.
- Participates in presentations to relevant stakeholders, provides information and promotes the awareness of enforcement, safety issues, and crime prevention programs.
- Liaises with York Regional Police, other enforcement agencies, and various levels of court services on enforcement issues.
- Provides on-the-job training to new Enforcement Staff.
- Ensures all individual documents and information are maintained confidentially.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Successful completion of a two (2) year Community College program in Police Foundations or Law and Security or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of security or law enforcement experience or related experience in dealing with the public and enforcement procedures.
- Valid Standard First Aid Level C and CPR certification.
- Minimum vision and hearing standards as defined by the relevant governing bodies.
- Successful completion of the Skills Assessment (Aptitude Test) and the physical fitness requirements.
- Medical screening and psychological testing, interview and assessment, all as defined by the Constable Selection System.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Police Background Investigation for the purposes of obtaining Special Constable Status.
- Successful completion of the Special Constable training program.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies, including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
