**TERM**:Full-time (FTE 1.0) - 1 year contract with possibility of renewal

**REPORTS TO**:Senior AI Data Scientist

Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute (“CHEO RI”) is the research arm of the Children’s

**CHEO RI has an immediate requirement for a Data Scientist**

We are seeking a Data Scientist to support machine learning and data science projects related to analyzing specific health outcomes from EMR Data. This role is in support of a new Precision Child Youth Mental Health
Initiative. This is an exciting opportunity to improve mental wellness for the next generation through cutting
- edge mental health research leading to precision healthcare for children, youth and families.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Under the general supervision of the Senior AI Data Scientist, the Data Scientist will:

- Implement and use appropriate data science and machine learning solutions to support the goals of the projects.
- Ensure data quality control measures prior to analysis and appropriate data cleansing.
- Prepare data for use in machine learning solutions including formatting, normalizing, over/under sampling, and imputing missing values where necessary.
- Train and retrain systems and models where and as necessary.
- Perform statistical analysis and fine-tuning using test results, testing models.
- Maintain documentation, code, analysis and results so work can be understood and repeated in accordance with coding best practices.
- Demonstrate specialized skills and standardized data science techniques (e.g., regression, segmentation, deep learning, feature importance and model explainability logging, model drift monitoring).
- Work with a team to identify and acquire new data sources and provide input into data transformation rules required to prepare data for advanced analytics use cases.

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILL AND ABILITIES**
- University degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, or equivalent; a concentration in data science and machine learning programming and techniques preferred.
- Supporting degree or education in biology/biochemistry, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related scientific fields with 2+ years’ working experience in computational biology, bioinformatics and/or machine learning in pharma, biotech or academic setting preferred, not required.
- Understanding of data structures, data modeling and software architecture, understanding of EMR Data.
- Experience with EMR systems (e.g. EPIC, Cerner) and EMR data an asset.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of quantitative techniques (normalization, standardization, applied statistics) for clinical results an asset. Ability to define and develop data analysis strategies under mínimal supervision with high degree of scientific competence, organization and attention to detail.
- Concise communication of scientific concepts, data analysis, clinical interpretation and reporting.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written for technical and non-technical audiences.
- High-energy self-starter with experience and passion for large scale data analysis. Enjoys working in fast
- paced environments and making an impact.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Mainly remote work, with ability to be on-site on occasion

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Eligible to work in Canada;
