Vineyard Worker

Edgemere Estates Vineyard is a small, family-owned Vineyard dedicated to growing premium quality, certified
- organic vinifera located in Starr's Point Nova Scotia.

As a Vineyard Worker you will participate in the vineyard activities pertaining to the growing cycle of the grape vines, as well as assist in the cleaning and guest preparation of our two, very popular vineyard farm stays. For those with an interest in Farming, and Tourism, this job offers a great mix of getting your hands dirty and helping to host travelers from near and far. You will work as part of a small but mighty team who really enjoy what they do.

**Wages**: $16 per hour, including vacation pay. This is a seasonal position, but there is potential for longer-term employment to continue into the busy fall harvest season and/or on weekends, etc. Happy to work around student school schedules.

**Commencement**: Ideally by May 6, 2024. Also able to offer hours immediately based on individual's availability.

**Qualifications**:

- Enjoy working outdoors in all weather.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and as part of a team.
- Physically fit, including ability to walk, stand, and crouch for long periods of time and be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Maintain a clean work environment; cleaning and returning tools to their proper location at the end of each day.
- Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Reliable transportation.
- Maintain smoke-free environment.

**Responsibilities** include, but are not limited to:

- Canopy management: tying, de-suckering, shoot thinning and positioning, tucking, leaf removal and thinning
- Fruit management: lateral removal, fruit drop and removal of secondary fruit
- Weed and Grass control: mechanical removal/maintenance of weeds, mowing using a ride-on mower, mulching, hoeing, and weed whacking of vineyards and grounds
- Assist the Vineyard Owner in cleaning short-term farm stays at an exceptional level, as needed. (During regular working hours).
- Equipment maintenance: daily cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment used.
- Safety: ensure compliance with all workplace health and safety requirements, including, use of appropriate personal protective equipment at all times. Employee to supply own work boots and gloves.
- Pest & Disease control: Assisting in scouting the vineyard and identifying potential pests and disease and communicating findings with Vineyard Manager
- Soil management: Assisting the Vineyard Manager with removal or additions of fertilizers, compost, cover crops, etc.
- Trellis maintenance: Assisting in the repairs of rails, wires, posts, collecting clips, etc., of trellis systems
- New vineyard installations: Assisting in the preparation of sites and planting of new vines

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 4 months

**Salary**: $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 per week
