Are you a detail-oriented and adaptable piano technician eager to contribute to a dynamic team, ensuring the highest quality maintenance and repair of musical instruments? Join us as our new part-time **Piano Technician**

The Piano Technician reports to the Head of the Department of Music and is responsible for tuning, regulating, and voicing pianos and harpsichords, as well as maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding components as needed. The role involves assessing parts required for repairs, estimating costs, and managing parts ordering, while also addressing malfunctions and emergencies. Additionally, the technician will perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the optimal functioning of all instruments.

**What You’ll Do**:

- Tunes, regulates and voices pianos and harpsichords.
- Troubleshoots piano malfunctions.
- Using a variety of manuals and power tools and equipment, maintains, tests, repairs and rebuilds various piano parts as required.
- Sets up and carries out a regular maintenance schedule for all pianos and harpsichords owned or administered by the Faculty of Fine Arts. Keeps a record of all maintenance and repairs performed, including materials and parts used and their costs.
- Determines parts required for repairs and orders them.
- Estimates the cost of piano and harpsichord repairs.
- Deals with piano and harpsichord malfunctions.
- Responds to emergency calls regarding pianos and harpsichords as required.

Position Requirements

**What You’ll Bring to this Position**:

- Graduation from Grade 12.
- Successful completion of a two-year piano technical course at a recognized technical institute or university.
- Two years related experience.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

**Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role**:

- Considerable knowledge of the procedures and techniques involved in tuning, regulating and voicing pianos and harpsichords.
- Considerable knowledge of how to repair and rebuild piano parts.
- Considerable skill in distinguishing various tonal qualities when tuning, regulating and voicing pianos and harpsichords.
- Considerable skill in determining piano malfunctions and defects.
- Considerable skill in the use and operation of manual and power tools, and equipment used in tuning, regulating, voicing, repairing and maintaining pianos and harpsichords.
- Working level skills in communicating verbally and in writing with other employees, faculty, students and external persons.
- Working level skill in estimating costs of piano repairs.
- Ability to work under mínimal supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, faculty, students and external persons.

Physical Demands Pay Grade CUPE Phase 5 Salary Range 59,378.80 - 80,166.32 annually (effective January 1, 2025) Status Permanent Work Hours

The incumbent may be required to work irregular hours because of the scheduling of events and emergency situations
