**The Position**

**Year 1 Culinary Apprentice**

**CASINO RAMA RESORT CULINARY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM**

“Gastronomy

**INTENT**:
It is the intent of Casino Rama to support the re-launch of the Culinary Apprenticeship Program, thereby providing employees with the opportunity to attain their Red Seal Journeyperson trade Certification through a combination of classroom instruction (720 hours.) and on-the-job training (5,280 hours). This will also help support the opportunity for culinary team members to be promoted to 1st cook and chef de partie.

- They demonstrate continuous performance improvement.
- They exude a positive and progressive attitude with colleagues.

To enhance the on-the-job learning by the Apprentices, the Executive Chef will ensure they are provided with additional opportunities that may include:

- Related Projects
- Attendance and/or participation at events on and off property EG: taste of the world, ORHMA Gala etc.
- Attendance and/or participation at seminars, demonstrations & courses

**What You’ll Require**
- Grade 12 or ministry approved equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year Culinary experience
- Has a genuine desire to grow as a culinarian and who understand that the role of a chef is a unique and exciting way of life, not just a job
- French language skills (verbal and written) are an asset
- All employees at Casino Rama are expected to:

- Comply with the duties of workers or supervisors, as prescribed by Section 27 or 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Comply with all applicable Casino Rama Occupational Health and Safety policies, procedures and protocols.
- Demonstrate a positive health and safety attitude to ensure Casino Rama continuously provides a safe entertainment destination for patrons and co-workers.

Successful applicants to this program will rotate through all culinary locations at the Resort and will occur quarterly with scheduling being based upon the available Apprenticeship lines.

**WAGES**:
Wages of Apprenticeships will be as follows:
1st Year - 85% of the current Journeyperson rate

2nd Year - 90% of the current Journeyperson rate

3rd Year - 95% of the current Journeyperson rate

The Journeyperson rate will be considered the current rates of a First Cook.

Applicants from the Culinary department shall have their rate of pay “grandfathered” for the duration of the apprenticeship program, if their current rate exceeds the rates identified above.

**Program Fees**

The Company agrees to pay for apprenticeship related programs including tuition, books, exams and licensing fees.

Participants in the Apprenticeship program will be responsible for paying for relevant equipment (i.e. knives), supplies and other expenses not noted above.

Participants may be eligible to receive Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while attending courses. Please refer to the following link for further details:
