**Responsibilities**:
The Summer Student 1 will:
a. Work with supervisor Dr. McCausland in the Western Paleomagnetic and Petrophysics Laboratory (WPPL) to prepare, measure and analyze data from rock samples undergoing paleomagnetic and petrophysical analysis. Methods may include: magnetic remanence, stepwise demagnetization, density, porosity, resistivity, sonic velocity, magnetic susceptibility, and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility. Additional laboratory research may also include using a petrographic microscope to examine mineral phases and textural relations.

b. Work with Dr. McCausland as a paleomagnetic field assistant on the collection of research samples on planned multi-day excursions, as needed. Field expenses (lodging, food) are covered.

c. Present paleomagnetic and petrophysical findings to the Mineralogy research group as warranted, and will have opportunity to write specialized reports on this work for the laboratory, and potentially for publication.

**Education**:
- Must be a student returning to studies in the fall

**Experience**:
- 1 year part time employment or volunteer experience

- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
