**Job Overview**:
The Dietetic Technician (Diet Tech) is responsible for the maintenance of the Computrition system including entering and checking accuracy of patient preferences, allergies, menus, diet plans, and patient nutrition information. This role troubleshoots basic system problems and collaborates with Information Technology on larger issues. The Diet Tech develops and delivers Computrition training programs for end users. The Diet Tech demonstrates a strong working knowledge of therapeutic diets and collaborates with the Registered Dietitians and Junior Clerks to implement nutrition care plans accurately and ensure diet standards are met.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensures that all patient diet and food preference information and diet changes are accurately captured in Computrition. Processes time sensitive patient diet information daily (within 24 hours or immediately based on criticality) following established protocols. Interprets and/or calculates individual therapeutic and special diet orders.
- Responsible to analyze the Smart Substitution Conflict report and resolve identified conflicts
- Identify and monitor specific patients to ensure tray tickets are complete and accurate.
- Ensures patient satisfaction with diet and food preferences by addressing identified patient concerns. Visits patients/residents and caregivers to obtain diet related information, communicates with Nursing and Registered Dietitians about diet issues. Resolves and/or forward concerns to the appropriate source for follow-up.
- Acts as a liaison between Clinical units and Food Services
- Attends regular department meetings to keep abreast of meal service production issues.
- Maintains competency in current clinical nutrition best practices to provide food appropriate to individual patient nutritional requirements.
- Responsible for making master menu changes as needed (seasonal changes, holiday menus, when menu offerings change, etc)
- Acts as Computrition software administrator in conjunction with IT support staff; Trains and coaches all staff to use Computrition correctly and effectively. Reports issues to Manager.
- Promotes and maintains excellent customer relations and effective on-going communication with all levels of staff and patients.
- Assists with planning and executing special assignments and follow-up. Attends to any other work directed by Manager.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor of Science, Food and Nutrition preferred
- Dietetic Technician Certification or equivalent
- Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (CSNM) membership
- Membership in the Ontario Society of Nutritional Management (OSNM) preferred
- 1-2 years’ experience in diet therapy is preferred but will consider applicant with less
- Must be knowledgeable about different therapeutic diets and basic nutrition
- Problem solving, planning and organizational skills
- Excellent communicator. Must be proficient in English (verbal/written) Competencies in other languages an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
- Strong analytical skills. Detail-orientated.
- Excellent computer skills (keyboarding, use of OFFICE software, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and within a team setting
- Robust working knowledge of Computrition software and managing all aspects of therapeutic diets in that program
- Recent experience using Computrition in an institutional, large hospital setting preferred
- Must be available to work every second weekend
