At Sinai Health, we care, create possibilities and offer hope. We are looking for an experienced **Physician Assistant** to support our **Dovigi Sports Clinic **at our** Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.**

The Physician Assistant (PA) would function as a physician extender under the direct supervision of the Orthopaedic Surgeon. The PA would be integrated into the sports medicine practice providing direct patient care in clinic as well as the operating room (rarely). Overall, the PA will provide support to Dr. Theo and ancillary staff resulting in improved quality of care and delivery of care to patients in the clinic.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assessing new patients and follow-up consultations in the ambulatory clinic including history and physical examination.
- Improving availability and coverage to patients to allow for quicker scheduling and shorter wait times.
- Patient charting and medical documentation including the completion of disability, insurance and work forms.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic investigations in the ambulatory clinic as well as the operating room (e.g. x-rays, ultrasound, MRI, CT scans, etc.).
- Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under supervision of the physician. Such procedures include suture and staple removal, wound care, venipuncture for blood draw, local anesthesia infiltration, joint aspirations, corticosteroid and visco-supplementation joint injections, and setting of fractures for casting.
- Prescribing medications as outlined in medical directives.
- Patient education regarding diagnosis’ to provide information on management, prevention, and rehabilitation plans.
- Improving staff access to the provider by answering medical questions from administrative assistants, triaging phone calls, completing referrals, and clarifying orders.
- Obtaining informed surgical consent as necessary.
- Managing patients in the pre-operative and post-operative period immediately before or after surgery.
- First assisting in arthroscopic and open surgery under the direct supervision of the physician. Such abilities include infiltration of local anesthetic, retraction, graft preparation and wound closure.
- Functioning as a liaison between the hospital and the clinic regarding any questions or concerns.
- Participating in clinical research initiatives to allow for quality improvement.
- Assisting in the teaching of residents, fellows, PA students, and medical students.
- Job Requirements- Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or eligible to be certified by PACCC.
- Eligible to work in Canada/Ontario.
- Recent clinical experience in orthopaedic surgery or sports medicine preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives.
- Proficient and appropriate use of diagnostic and procedural skills.
- Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated and proven ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety.
