Job Description

AltaGas is seeking a Temporary Plant Operator for our Edmonton Ethane Extraction Plant Taking day-to-day direction from the Lead Operator, this position is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the facility.

This position will work the dayshift only, 9 hours per day, Monday through Friday with every second Friday off. This position is a fixed term until November 30, 2024.

What You'll Do:

- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.
- Performing plant rounds and readings to ensure equipment operates within process parameters. Minimum of 4 rounds/shift and one set of readings/shift.
- Perform required adjustments in the field to the process equipment to ensure equipment is operating within process parameters and safe operating limits
- Has a good understanding of process flows, location, and operation of all plant equipment.
- Prepare equipment for maintenance following AltaGas' Lock Out Procedures
- Ensure all weekend, monthly, and housekeeping duties are completed to maintain facility integrity and cleanliness.
- Ability to identify and respond quickly to process upsets while maintaining best practices, facility safety, and minimizing plant downtime.
- Completes assigned tasks, Work Orders, Safety Checklists, etc.
- Ability to properly identify report and communicate plant equipment and safety deviations through MAXIMO, Hazard IDs, and Operations Log.
- Continuously improve skills and knowledge to enhance Operator competence and experience to advance to the next level as outlined in our Operations Training Program.
- Participate in Critical Job Checklists, Job Hazard Assessments, and Work Permits to ensure non-routine or high-risk work is completed as per procedures.
- Participate in improving and revising Operations Procedures, Lockout Procedures, and Job Hazard Assessments
- Participate in HSE meetings, inspections, and all other HSE requirements.
- Understand and properly carry out Emergency Response Procedures and participate in ERP drills
- Report any HSE events and unsafe work.

What You Bring:

- Valid ABSA 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate.
- Minimum 2 years of plant operations experience, preferably in a gas plant with liquids extraction or NGL fractionation facility.
- Ability to identify and respond to operating deviations to maintain safe operating conditions in the plant to minimize downtime.
- Understand environmental impacts, health, safety, and security risks.
- H2S Alive, First Aid, CPR, and Confined Space Entry certifications preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret operating manuals and Plant P&IDs.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Computer knowledge including proficiency in JDE, Microsoft Office, and Maximo would be considered an asset

Where You'll Be Working:
The Edmonton Ethane Extraction Plant (known as EEEP) is located within the city limits in south Edmonton, Alberta. EEEP is a gas extraction straddle plant with a gross production capacity of 23,000 Bbls/d of specification ethane and 7,500 Bbls/d of natural gas liquids (NGLs). The facility is connected to several pipeline systems, which provide the opportunity for valuable liquids such as ethane, propane, and butane to be processed for commercial and industrial use.
