Early Childhood Educator

**Shearwater Children’s Centre**

Under the supervision of the Director, the Early Childhood Educator will ensure a safe, healthy and supportive learning environment for children of military families, in accordance with the Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) - Early Years Branch and the NS Early Learning and Child Care Act & Regulations.

Family Support
- Ensure confidentiality in working with families and clients of the Military Family Resource Centre;
- Effective communication with the Director and other ECE’s regarding program plans, family concerns and all matters pertaining to the children enrolled;
- Daily communication with families; keeping them informed of all pertinent information regarding their children; and
- As needed, refer families to other programs provided by the Military Family Resource Centre, and within the community.

Program Development & Delivery
- Provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment to enhance development in all areas, while providing for the health and social well-being of the children;
- Work collaboratively with other ECE’s in a team environment;
- Responsible for program development and curriculum implementation in cooperation with other ECE’s, in accordance with the NS Framework, which following children’s interest and lead allowing children to make choices;
- Responsible for the active supervision and interaction of children enrolled;
- Responsible for the orientation of new children and their families to the Centre;
- Use of appropriate positive behavior guidance techniques;
- Establish and maintain effective communication with children, staff, families, Inclusion Coordinator, Assistant Director and the Director;
- Mentor new ECE’s, students and volunteers to ensure that they are supported;
- Attend monthly staff meetings, classroom team meeting, and family meetings as required;
- Ensure program plans are completed daily;
- Complete daily attendance sheets and ensure each child is signed in and signed out appropriately;
- Responsible to maintain a clean and healthy classroom environment including toys and equipment as per Early Learning and Child Care Regulations;
- Responsible for implementation of the Centre’s inclusion philosophy;
- Completion of bi-annual progress reports for each child; and
- Willingness to work with children of all ages.

Administration
- Accurately complete daily attendance sheets and ensure each child is signed in and signed out appropriately;
- Effectively communicate with the Director and other staff of the MFRC when necessary, regarding program plans, program concerns, family concerns and matters pertaining to the children attending the program;
- Complete professional development requirements as per the NS Classification for ECE’s.

**Education & Experience**
- Must hold a NS Classification in Early Childhood Education;
- Experience working with children ages 3 months-12 years in a licensed childcare facility;
- Experience working with families and as part of a team in a licensed childcare facility;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.

**Job type**:Term
- ASAP to July 2024, with the possibility of an extention

**Annual Salary**: Based on Government ECE Wage Scale

**Duties**:

- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for children in the early childhood classroom
- Create a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow
- Provide guidance and support to children in their social, emotional, and cognitive development
- Collaborate with parents and families to ensure the well-being of each child
- Maintain accurate records of each child's progress and development
- Utilize computer programs to track attendance, communicate with parents, and complete administrative tasks

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Previous experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting
- Knowledge of early childhood development principles and practices
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to lead a classroom of young children and provide effective instruction
- Familiarity with special education strategies and accommodations
- Proficiency in computer operation, including the ability to use computerized systems for record keeping and communication
