**LOCATION**: 3 days at 18 Algonquin Avenue (NiDakinan)

**SUMMARY**:
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable individual to join our department at NiDakinan. Under the supervision of the Sustainable Development Manager, the Water Guardian will plan and perform monitoring and documentation of our Traditional Territory and aquatic resources. The Water Guardian will also be involved with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) consultation process, aquatic conservation projects, and TFN aquatic habitat management. The Water Guardian role is integral in preserving our cultural heritage, aquatic ecosystems, and fostering community engagement and education.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Monitor and conduct validations of Traditional Territory and resources
- Participate in the consultation process to protect or enhance cultural values
- Collaborate with DFO and Industries to promote Aquatic Health and Biodiversity
- Conduct Aquatic projects: water quality, habitat, shoreline erosion, and aquaculture, etc.
- Monitor and Conduct sampling of aquatic habitat sites
- Follow established guidelines and procedures
- Community presentations and outreach

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 Year of Experience in the Natural Resources Field or willing to be trained
- Indigenous Cultural Education or Experience

**KNOWLEDGE & SKILL**:

- Capacity to conduct field inventories and validation
- Knowledge of Aquatic species
- Knowledge of Aquatic Ecosystems
- Knowledge of GPS
- Ability to represent the TFN with a professional image
- Ability to speak and understand the French language or Anishinaabemowin is an asset
- Willingness to learn and ability to work independently

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- Field work on the water and office environment
- Five-day work week (35 hours per week) (Monday to Thursday: 8:00 to 12:15 - 1:00 to 4:30 Friday: 8:00 to 12:00)
- Overtime may be required to meet deadlines and complete projects
- Travel is required
- Must be physically able to perform field studies on the water.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
