TEMPORARY FULL TIME - 6-8 months

SCHEDULE: 8 HOUR DAY SHIFTS; (Subject to change)

SALARY- $33.63 - $39.69 per hour

This position is open to all qualified OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing on July 18, 2023 and closing at 11:59pm on July 25, 2023.

Pinewood Centre of Lakeridge Health provides a variety of services to help people with alcohol, drug, concurrent mental health and gambling related concerns in the Durham Region and in Scarborough. This position will be working in partnership with the Scarborough Health Network - RAAM clinic. Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) clinics offer fast access to quality care for people living with alcohol and opioid-related addictions. Services include medical treatment and counselling services without a doctor's referral.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Addiction Counsellor II will focus on the development and provision of community withdrawal management services to clients presenting for service for opiate withdrawal and alcohol misuse within the Scarborough Health Network. This is a partnership funded position. The Addiction Counsellors work closely with the nurses and physicians as a team in the RAAM clinic. Note: Travel between Scarborough locations, community agencies may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Social Sciences;
- Additional graduate certificate in Mental Health and Addictions is considered an asset;
- Have been trained in GAIN-Q3 MI ONT is considered an asset - or agree to be trained;
- Have certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention;
- Knowledge of current opioid issues including risks, overdose prevention and opioid replacement therapy;
- Ability to develop and maintain ongoing professional consultation and collaboration with community partners;
- Proven experience with program development and implementation;
- Ability to be adaptable to program revisions during implementation and ongoing review of service;
- Significant experience with substance use populations, including intake/screening, assessment, treatment planning and case management functions;
- Significant experience in provision of individually-based substance use counselling, and group-based services, including psycho-education. Experience with telephone counselling is also required;
- Effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
- Proven working knowledge of theories of addiction, evidence-based treatment models and best practice approaches;
- Proven knowledge of other key issues associated with substance use, particularly concurrent disorders, physical health issues, women's issues, homelessness, family issues, adolescent development and working with the youth population, and crisis intervention;
- Proven knowledge of multicultural and diversity issues;
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with the community, with the clinical team and independently in a manner consistent with high professional standards;
- Proven ability to recognize and diffuse escalating or potentially violent clients;
- Proven knowledge of community resources and provincial addiction system;
- Proven commitment to a client focused philosophy of care;
- Willingness to be clinically supervised and pursue ongoing professional development;
- Maintain Ontario driver's licence and own transportation
- Ability to communicate with other local languages: Tamil, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin) in considered an asset;
- Experience working with agencies in Scarborough areas and familiar with their services
- Must have satisfactory performance record;

- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area;

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
