The Cedar Farmers Market Agricultural Society is a not-for-profit community market, with an elected voluntary Board of Directors (the ‘Board’), and is a member of the British Columbia Farmers Market Association. The market connects the local community and visitors with access to locally grown produce, farm products, baked goods, and artisanal goods.

The Event Assistant will be paid for 25 weeks during the 2024 season and work roughly 7-9 hours per week. The event is on Sundays. Multiple start times are available: 6 am, 7 am, and, possibly, 8 am. Shifts all end upon the completion of tasks, typically at 3 pm.

1-2 hours is also available for fieldwork during the week for those interested. The field work day and time are flexible.

We are looking to hire for 2 permanent positions (every Sunday) and 2-3 casual positions (occasional Sundays as your schedule allows). If you have transportation concerns that require you to start at one time or another, please let us know so we can plan accordingly.

2024 Schedule: Sundays May 12th - October 29th
Work Location: 1984 Woobank Road, Cedar BC

**Responsibilities**:

- Familiarize themselves with safe operating procedures and the CFM’s WorkSafe plan.
- Physical event set-up: all signage, traffic pylons, tents, tables, chairs, garbage bins, etc.
- Request additional assistance from Manager and/or Assistant Manager when needed
- Greet customers and vendors and provide information about vendor locations, CFM merchandise, hours of operation, and other general inquiries; refer any questions or concerns to Manager/Assistant Manager
- Maintain equal coverage of parking lot at all times (between two employees)
- Direct traffic in a safety-first manner and wear a hi-viz vest when near vehicles
- Assist visitors with mobility issues to the closest available parking spot
- Get help when break needed: Parking attendants are not to be absent from their position except when performing market set-up, market tear-down, washroom breaks, special assignments, or designated break time
- Report any notable incidents or issues to the Market Manager; additionally write down any issues in the Communication binder located at the Market Manager's table
- Contribute equally to tear-down/pack-up market from 2:00 p.m. until all items are packed in the shed and the shed is locked
- Employees are expected to be trained on set-up and tear-down and thereafter be able to work independently until total completion

Employees should share in work efforts and also prioritize break time to recharge. It’s important to have time to connect to the market experience, enjoy the music, and eat. Also, drink lots of water We are very busy, but it is important that we don’t get burnt out. Any issues that need to be addressed can be brought up to the Market Manager.
