We offer 24/7 crisis shelter transitional housing options on-site and, in the community, health and well-being support, training and skill development, and ongoing care once youth move into the community.

For over 40 years, Covenant House has been dedicated to its mission of serving youth on the street and to protect and safeguard all youth with absolute respect and unconditional love. Since 1982, Covenant House has supported more than 100,000 young people.

**Overview**:
**Responsibilities**:

- Supporting participants through orientation, their experiences in program and successful transition to independent living or other supportive housing
- Utilizing a trauma-informed approach and relentless engagement with participants
- Ongoing assessment of participants' needs; providing individual counseling and completing referrals to other supports in the community
- Facilitating at least one group life skill session monthly and providing occasional individual life skills with participants
- Support participants in their life skills development by working one on one with them on daily routines such as personal hygiene, laundry, cooking, budgeting and room cleanliness
- Completing participants’ ETO documentation (Daily notes, Incident reports etc.); and other records including SMIS, communication book, shift changes, fire safety lists etc.
- Shift coordinating role that includes delegating responsibilities among staff team on shift and taking primary accountability for the safety of everyone and the environment
- Supporting the team with various daily tasks on shift including training of new staff, upkeep of the environment, completing file reviews as delegated by supervisors and/or shift coordinator
- Crisis intervention in situations of physical confrontation, medical and psychiatric emergencies, and for participants who have recently experienced trauma
- Advocating for participants both within the organization as well as with external organizations
- Conducting reception functions and monitoring of various spaces in the building to ensure safety
- Management of the external environment; by supervisor’s request completing building checks and searches

**Qualification, Experience**:

- College or university degree or diploma in child and youth work or equivalent.
- Minimum two years’ experience in a shelter or transitional housing program.
- Demonstrated ability of using trauma-informed approach working with young people.
- Understanding of case management principles & practices and relentless engagement.
- Knowledge of adolescent developmental theory and specific issues related to youth experiencing homelessness.
- First Aid, CPR, UMAB and basic computer skills (SMIS, ETO, Word, Excel, etc.) an asset.
- Ability to identify, assess and intervene differentially with youth in crisis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of community resources.
