**OVERVIEW**: Reporting to the Memengwaa Supervisor, the Nookomis (Grandma) will provide culturally based kinship supports to Anishinaabe youth in and from the child welfare system. This role provides guidance to youth as they transition from care, supporting youth to build a sense of identity.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITES**:

- Utilize traditional Indigenous Knowledges to provide wholistic wellness supports to Indigenous youth in and from CFS care.
- Build trusting relationships with youth by providing a listening ear, showing compassion, and engaging youth in a positive way.
- Check in with youth living in the building; encourage youth to meet with yourself, staff, and/or to access other on-site programming.
- Share stories, experiences, values, and teachings with youth in one-on-one informal and caring setting such as the on-site round room or in tenants’ homes.
- Provide youth guidance in difficult situations.
- Support youth to understand their identity as Anishinaabe people by helping youth learn their history and culture.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Certificates in ASSIST, NVCI and other trainings a definite asset.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
- Lived experiences as a grandparent and/or experience working with Indigenous youth is required.
- Ability to work with the youth who have addictions, mental illness, and trauma with love and compassion.
- Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin a definite asset.
- Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and a reliable vehicle is considered an asset.
- Must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as conditions of employment. (This does not necessarily mean you will not be eligible to work for SAI).
- Successful applicant will also be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
