**A Day in the Life **
Reporting to the Manager, Co-Curricular Experiential Learning & Programs, the Indigenous Plus Consultant coordinates and facilitates delivery of the Indigenous Plus program. This is a four-year program to support indigenous studnets with their pursuit of a career in any field/profession. Program components include speaker series, observational visits, job shadowing, skill development workshops, mentoring and program advising.
The incumbent further supports students by providing career/job search advice and/or guidance to support further education pursuits to advance their employment preparation skills and techniques.
**As the** **Indigenous Plus Consultant, you will**:
- Establish and maintain an advisory board of relevant stakeholders (i.e. Hadiya'dagenhahs Student Services, Office of VP Indigenous Engagement, faculty champion(s), students, community members, Indigenous groups/organizations), identify the scope, create terms of reference to support and guide the program;
- Liaise with the advisory board to develop and implement Indigenous Plus Program outline, learning objectives and annual curriculum;
- Develop and implement the annual Indigenous Plus curriculum, including liaising with the Indigenous community and coordinating speaker engagements, observational visits, job shadows and skill development workshops;
- In consultation with Aboriginal Student Services and the Office of the VP Indigenous Engagement, identify key partners in the community (i.e., Indigenous peoples, organizations/groups as well as industry-focused professionals and organizations/group) to support program objectives;
- Attend community events to connect with a network of employers; leverage the opportunities to develop new partnerships;
- Assess student interests and abilities in community engagement volunteer placements and recommend placement opportunities;
- Facilitate the arrangement of interviews between community partners and students, discuss interview results to help determine best fit;
- Provide mentoring opportunities for senior students to mentor incoming students, including providing training and ongoing support for mentors;
- Conduct individual, face-to-face mock interviews, develop and post interview questions and provide immediate feedback;
- Develop and update content for Indigenous Plus Program, including career resource handouts, job search guides, student and employer handbooks/forms;
- Develop communication plans and materials to promote and highlight the program and related activities through newsletters, websites, e-blasts, and mail outs to foster community engagement.
**What you need to Succeed**
- A Bachelors degree in a related field or 5+ years of experience doing similar work;
- A minimum of two years of experience in a career advising and/or program management role;
- Experienced working with Indigenous peoples and communities;
- Knowledge of career development methods and practices;
- Experience with program development and curriculum design;
- Experienced with resume and cover letter screening/development;
- Knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing and doing, Indigenous peoples and communities;
- Advanced communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal) and professional public speaking ability;
- Patience, compassion and understanding with the ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically;
- Ability to work with diverse groups, advising, coaching and strategizing career planning objectives;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks/requests.
**Preferred or Asset Skills **
- Identifies as First Nation, Metis or Inuit;
- Lived experience as an Indigenous person;
- Experience working in Indigenous communities;
- Career Development Practitioners certification;
- Human Resource certification;
- Professional resume writing certification.
**Salary and Benefit Information**
- Job Grade (K), Salary Scale ($57,400-$98,400)*;
- Target Hiring Range: $57,400-$60,000.
